Tips For Safely Celebrating The Holidays Around Children With Food Allergies

Food allergies are becoming more and more common among children in our world today. As a byproduct of our increasing reliance on pesticides and other chemical compounds, more individuals than ever are living with mild to severe food allergies that can be life threatening. For most big families, accommodating these food allergies is a natural part of the holiday process.

Just to be safe, here are some tips for keeping everything allergy-free:

1. Allergen-Free Foods
A great place to start is KidsWithFoodAllergies.org. They have a long list of allergen-free recipes, with each major allergen identified in traditional holiday dishes. Additionally, consider vegan options for people with gluten and dairy allergies. If a child has a nut allergy, certain vegan dishes will also accommodate for them.

2. Communicate
Try and open up dialogue with everyone attending the Christmas celebration before they arrive. This way, you’ll have plenty of time to peruse different vegan and allergy-free recipes before the big day. The worst part of having allergies during the holiday season is having to take a backseat while everyone else enjoys the delicious treats and food at your fingertips.

3. Talk to Educators
Remember, the holidays are happening at school, too. Kids will be bringing in desserts filled with allergies multiple days before Christmas. If your child has a severe allergy, be sure to let the school know and recommend some vegan alternatives they can send around to parents in an email.

Here Are a Few Reasons to Consider Going Vegan This Holiday Season

We don’t tend to associate veganism with the holiday spirit. However, now is the perfect time to consider turning over a new consumption leaf, making your new habits known to your family members. As a vegan, you can share the magic behind the movement at Christmas dinner, and explain to everyone what it means to you to be a vegan consumer.

If you’re on the fence, here are a few reasons to consider it now:

1. You’ll Be Saving The Planet
One of the best gifts you could give the planet for Christmas is going vegan. Vegan means saying no to all animal byproducts that were harvested and collected through massive corporations, releasing chemical waste into rivers and fumes into the air. Instead, by making a commitment to plants and fruit, you’ll be saving the environment – one meal at a time.

2. It’s Better For You
No health guide has ever tried to make the argument that red meat and cheese are good for you. Animal byproducts are some of the worst products for us. No other species eats the milk of a foreign species, and neither should we. Your body was created with the intention of plant-consumption.

3. No More Animal Cruelty
The conditions under which animals live before butchering in our global meat market are absolutely mind numbing. During the holiday season, consider the reality for other living creatures on this planet. By going vegan, you’ll be sparing millions of animals from a cruel and inhumane death over the course of your lifetime.

Going vegan can seem like an overwhelming lifestyle change. Don’t worry; you can still get your chocolate fix as a vegan with our No Whey Chocolate products. All of our products are also common allergen free meaning that the are milk free, nut free, gluten free, soy free, wheat free as well.

The Top 3 Vegan Desserts You Should Make For Christmas This Year

December is upon us, which means Christmas is just around the corner. A day of family bonding, gift exchanges, religious observance, and holiday feasting, Christmas is definitely a holiday that revolves around food.

If you want to impress everyone this Christmas with your vegan creativity, try out these top 3 vegan desserts this month:

1. Sweet Potato Brownies
Sweet potatoes can substitute for a lot of sweets-based meals, masking the fact that a potato was used in your dessert. Instead of eggs and butter, you can use a sweet potato in your brownie, mixed in with layers and layers of chocolate and vegan fudge.

2. Oatmeal Cranberry Chocolate Chip Cookies
Vegan and gluten-free, these cookies will be a holiday hit at your Christmas dinner. Everyone loves the combo of cranberry and chocolate, especially during the holidays, which means folding the two of them together in one vegan-based chocolate dough will have everyone coming back for more. We bet that your guests won’t even know that they are vegan. Throw together some flaxseed meal, gluten-free flower, brown sugar, baking soda, and mix it all together with dairy-free chocolate chips, layering the cranberries in at the end.

3. Sweet Cherry Tarts
Warm, red colored desserts are perfect for the Christmas season. Grab some organic cherries at the grocery store, add in some cane sugar, lemon juice, flour, salt, vanilla extract, and you’re well on your way to making a deliciously sweet and seriously satisfying Christmas treat. For a gluten-free version, substitute in gluten-free flour.

Holiday Vegan Treats
Although your guests may turn their nose up to your desserts upon hearing the word vegan, persuade them to give these delicious and totally satisfying desserts a try during your holiday celebrations.

As always, don’t forget our milk free chocolate at No Whey Chocolate, easily folded into any cookie, brownie, or tart batter. Our chocolate is also nut free, gluten free and free of all eight common allergens.

How to Make a Vegan Christmas Dinner

It can be extra hard around the holidays to stick to veganism. There’s an abundance of breads, meats, cheeses, and baked goods from relatives that are chock full of milks, eggs, and other animal byproducts. Not to mention, if you’re someone with nut allergies, you can find nut extracts in just about everything around the Christmas table.

If you’re in need of some vegan Christmas cooking inspiration, here’s a few recipes for a delicious vegan Christmas dinner:

1. Rosemary Roasted Potatoes
Who doesn’t look a hearty potato on a cold Christmas morning? You can cook up a large batch of roasted potatoes covered in rosemary and olive oil. Yum.

2. Glazed Roasted Cauliflower
How about some balsamic glazed roasted cauliflower? Simply bake the cauliflower until crispy, drizzle balsamic all over it, and quickly pop it in the oven for the finished touch.

3. Spiced Hot Fruit
This can be eaten as a side dish, dessert, or added to your drink. Chop up some pears, apples, and peaches, lay them on a cookie sheet, and douse them in raspberry and blueberry juices, with cinnamon sprinkled on top. Roast them until the compote is bubbling.

4. No Whey Vegan Chocolate
Who said being a vegan was tasteless? With our No Whey Vegan Chocolate selections, you can show up to Christmas dinner with a full box of chocolate in hand. Everyone wants some chocolate on Christmas day.

5. No Whey Stocking Stuffer
If you need some last minute gifts for relatives at Christmas dinner, you can get the job done with our vegan, nut-free chocolate wrapped stocking stuffers. Delicious, nutritious, and environmentally sustainable, you’ll be gifting conscious consumption to the important people in your life!
